Retired judge Mike Fields, a former club president and division Lt. Governor has headed the event for 18 years. Major efforts include soliciting turkeys, hams, produce, bakery goods and paper products well in advance. Turkeys are cooked starting the weekend before with room decorating, vegetable chopping, pick-ups of bakery, dairy, and food items provided by new partners, the Food Bank of Monterey County. Because of the outpouring of volunteers and donated food and money, total expenditures from the club’s service fund are less than 45 cents per mea! Musicians and military chaplains participate and drivers carry over 300 meals to shut-ins all around the Peninsula. The Monterey Room is provided by the County Fair at minimal cost and their maintenance personnel actively assist.
